The song "Alim Allah" — proof that independent bands are still strong
Since after the coronavirus, almost everything changed in the world, and one of the things that changed was the activity and presence of independent bands.
Last Zafir, which was already absent before Corona, disappeared for a while after it.
El Morabba‘ (The Square) changes its members.
Downtown’s activity has dropped a lot and keeps shrinking every year.
Plus, the big concerts that used to bring several bands together are almost gone.
At the same time, rap started taking a strong place in the scene and began replacing independent bands to the point that, for the first time, Red Bull SoundClash was between a band (Cairokee) and a rapper (Afroto). Yes, rap (the spike) that had made it lost momentum over time..
But independent bands’ activity is still weak.. their output is small and weak and their audience is shrinking.
To the extent that Cairokee’s song “Samurai” came out and sat there for about a year with people mocking it.. where’s Cairokee’s audience.. where are the views..
But over time the situation started to correct itself again.. yes activity is still low for the bands
but the song people were mocking for Cairokee became one of their most famous songs in recent years and Cairokee released a strong album that blew up.
Last Zafir returned to play the sad melody again (with less activity but still present) and that alone is enough to make the sky smell like Charlie.
Mandatory Track returned actively to concerts and songs
and Autostrad came back with real mood..
And that’s what distinguishes Autostrad from any other Arab band.. they don’t sing to become a trend in (sad songs) or (breakup songs) or whatever.. they don’t try to fake a feeling..
They sing what’s in their heads.. even if their head is empty or chill or high at the time.. they might sing “I loved you in Turkish” like it’s nothing.
If you get stuck on the lyrics.. don’t get upset.. trap-a-tat-tati.. we’re here to have fun together.. the band does something that makes them happy and we as an audience go to the gig to enjoy.. so why ruin it!
What’s special is that Autostrad’s approach — not trying to be like someone else or like a segment of the audience — brought people like them together.. people who appreciate a cluttered mind (the Autostrad crowd).
I don’t know if I’m getting the idea across or not.. but the idea itself this post can sum up.. not tidy and not organized but honest like Autostrad.
Autostrad's comeback was strong — a bunch of really beautiful songs like "Aradek" and I take back what I said.. and finally "Alim Allah," which honestly, there are no words to describe how sweet it is..
Reminds me of Autostrad back in the day..
But it's also keeping up with the current era and with Autostrad's own maturity..
Summary of all this rambling.. enjoy listening to "Alim Allah"..
and enjoy the underground that's still kind of here or trying to be..
and let's try to support them because we need them to stay around and that's the most important thing.
Honestly, from the first trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms until I watched the promo I wasn't excited about it at all. I felt like they were going for Ser Duncan and there are stronger stories that could be done in the world of Westeros, like Robert Baratheon’s rebellion or even Jon Snow’s life after the events of Got.
But when I started watching the show I was blown away... and of course the scene I liked the most is the end of episode four (I won’t talk about it so no spoilers).

A picture from a Facebook page called "Sada al‑Pixel: On the Edge of Vision." I really liked it. The image contains text from the poem "Zeinab" by the late poet Ahmed al‑Tahan.
