Can writing still be a source of income, or does nobody read anymore?

Can writing still work as a field where it becomes my main job? I mean, could I work in nothing but writing—just come up with new ideas, write them, publish them, and so on? Or does nobody pay money to read books and novels anymore, with everyone moving toward short-form content and videos? This has really been on my mind, especially with AI around—and now it writes long stories and novels too, and honestly, the quality is often pretty good. So my question for you all is: In your view, will writing continue to be viable, or should I look for another field and give up on my dream?
